Half morning suit is the version with a short traditional morning suit jacket. It is an occasion garment that follows the same morning suit rules, and is therefore complimented by a different coloured waistcoat and striped trousers. In contrast to morning dress it does not require a hat and cane. Half morning dressis the perfect choice for those very elegant but less formal weddings that take place before 6pm.

The accompanying garments also follow the same rules: white shirt with double cuffs and stiff collar, possibly an Ascot or silk tie, and black lace-up shoes. Not only for the bridegroom, half morning dress is also an excellent alternative choice for the best man or guests who would prefer not to wear a long jacket. It is important to keep in mind that no-one should wear morning dress or half morning dress if the bridegroom is wearing a different type of suit, such as a dinner suit or three-piece suit.
