Semi-formal morning dress replaces the jacket worn in traditional morning dress with a shorter version. This option follows the same rules as for traditional morning dress, so is worn with a waistcoat of a different colour and striped trousers, but does not require the top hat or walking stick. Semi-formal morning dress is a perfect choice for a very elegant, but less formal wedding taking place before 6:00 p.m.
The rest of the outfit also follows the same rules: white shirt with cufflinks and a stiff collar, dress cravat or silk tie and black lace-up shoes. As well as for the groom, this is an excellent alternative for witnesses or guests who prefer not to wear the longer jacket. It is important to remember that no-one should attend a wedding in formal or semi-formal morning dress if the groom is dressed differently, for example in a dinner suit or three-piece suit.
